SoCal, so cool

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

This hidden treasure of fun, fabulousness, flair and flavour!

Applejack Hospitality, the boutique hospitality group have really put their heart and soul into this venue with its super fun chilled California vibe, colourful decor and creative staff.

I have visited this place numerous times as a large group and for a quick bite on their '$3 Taco Tuesdays' and it always has an electric atmosphere.

So if you are going to start with anything then make it their Spicy Senorita cocktail with Jalapeno infused Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila, lime and agave, it packs an absolute punch and is really well balanced, it certainly gets your taste buds in the mood for their fresh homemade Guacamole with black corn tortilla chips.

I don't know why their guacamole is so good, I wish they would share the secret recipe!

So let's talk Tacos, starting with their Baja Fish Tacos with pineapple, chilli, coriander salsa and iceberg lettuce; what a triumph, the pineapple and chilli combination is just delicious and who doesn't love a fish taco? Another favourite is the Smoked Brisket Tacos with peanut mole and pickled carrot, the brisket is stunning and flavourful and the peanut mole is a nice touch.

New to menu is their Octopus & Chorizo Taco with fennel and aji amarillo, I could not wait to order this and it doesn't disappoint, I love octopus and chorizo as a combination and I think it was a bold move by SoCal that has paid off, its spicy but balanced due to the aniseed flavour and freshness of the fennel.

If you are not feeling like Tacos then try their Kingfish Tiradito Leche De Tigre with pickled radish, aji amarillo, tarragon oil and puffed rice (a Peruvian term for the citrus-based marinade that cures the seafood in a ceviche). It is consistently good and that hint of tarragon oil is what sets this dish apart, perfect with one of their classic Classic Margaritas.

SoCal have so much more to offer on their menu including their BBQ dishes - cooked low and slow in their smokehouse, classic Enchilada's with Achiote Chicken and flavoursome salads. Don't forget to try their Estacion Provenir 'Vinto Tinto' Red Blend from Baja Mexico, its such a beautiful red and compliments the menu in every way.

Service is always friendly and easy going, so be sure to add it to your list of places to visit.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, once a month they are featuring a line-up of some of Australia’s most gifted stand-up comedians, transforming their terrace into a laugh-fest!
